If you could, would you start developing for consoles (Nintendo, Playstation, XBox) instead of mobile?

I think the market is very different for console games. You would also need more time and money to write console games. the nice thing about mobile is how open the market is, just write your game and upload it, that's it. Mobile games games being more simple makes it easier to write as one person.

Given the opportunity, I think I'd love to develop for consoles. The console market rules seem to be way more professional and straight forward. Good games sell, bad games don't, while in the mobile market, everything seems to be dependent on luck. Even if you're lucky and google's algorithms pick-up your game, you still had to face the dreadful choice of ads versus freemium, since paid games just don't sell anymore. I can only hope the Nintendo NX rumors to be true, that it will support Android based games.

i think for console games you will need to invest a lot money on marketing. it will be hard to sell your game without marketing. i agree with andymc, for indi devs like us the mobile market is a better choice. it is very simple to make apps and upload them to the market. you have control about everything. and sometimes stupid apps get success but thats not a axiom. if you go to the top paid games or top free games you will find very complex games (3d, physic engine,...) i think your RIU project could be also on that list. you only need to finish it

Also, I love being able to develop my games and test them where ever I am, so for mobile all I need is a laptop and either a genymotion emulator or a real phone.
Also, the mobile market is still the wild west right now, with small developers still able to have great success, like the Flappy bird developer, or the Five nights at freddys games, which was also written by just one developer.
Console's are more powerful and give different control methods to mobile, but I prefer the openness and flexibility of developing for mobile.
I think when I get tired of mobile I'll move onto VR development. Depending when this happens this will either be for desktop PC based VR or mobile VR.
