In my opinion, if a game really has to display an ad, it should be embedded in the game word, otherwise immersion will be broken. It's seems that, back in the day, we used to be smarter... Now, if only we had a library where the ads could be displayed as LibGDX texture regions... GOOD:GOOD:GOOD:BAD:

As a player, I hate ads in games (im mobile games, I mean), or at least I used to hate them. But now, as a developer I see that ads are a way to have some income, so that little developers can launch games and earn something, witch I think is fair. Otherwise I think there wouldn't be many alone developers, only companies. You can also earn something launching paid games or using IAPs, or a combination or both, like being able to pay to remove the ads. But the numbers are there: The most part of the earnings comes from the ads. And you need a succesfull game, with a big user base so that IAPs can work (ie: 8 ball pool by miniclip) Allways talking about using a reasonable number of interstitials, and no video ads (I hate video ads!) unless they're rewarded videos, something that you watch on purpose, to win coins or to skip a level you're stuck in.

Yes, but how to you feel about the examples above? I believe that it's so much better if we'd be able to integrate the ads into the "game world" instead of having them on a different layer which breaks the player immersive experience.

I agree with this post. I think with the advent of VR more in games now, you'll see much more adverts within the game world itself. There were times int he past when adverts were part of the game and it was much more obvious, like below:

Indeed! I don't mind the in-game ads exactly because they're part of the game world. In the film industry this is a common practice, take for example Blade Runner: Now, could you imagine this kind of ad in the same movie? It's just ridiculous!!! I hate mobile ads!
